I want to help create sustainable systems that embrace inclusion and promote empathy.

Work

I've been working as a UX and visual at IBM, focusing on enhancing user experience and visual design for digital platforms.

My professional career started with psychology. First, I studied for two years at Sarah Lawrence College then completed my BA in Psychology at UT. Initially, my career involved conducting clinical and neuropsychological assessments for individuals with severe mental illness. This work was incredibly rewarding, and it helped me realize that I should pursue a career that would allow me to combine my love of psychology and passion for design.

Once I made the decision, I launched myself into learning and became a self-taught UX and visual designer. In my seven years as a designer, I’ve worked directly with multi-disciplinary teams and cross-organizational stakeholders to craft delightful websites and mobile apps.

Speaking engagements

I've been actively engaged in speaking about inclusive design to emphasize its importance and empower individuals in the design community to contribute to a more inclusive world. In 2023, I had the privilege of presenting at the Design for Tomorrow global conference, delivering a lightning talk at the IBM Spark Design Festival, and delivering a detailed presentation for the IBM Inclusive Design Guild.

I also participated in a GenHERation panel during their Summer Intensive program. This intensive experience aims to inspire young women by encouraging them to set ambitious goals and explore their full potential. It was truly inspiring to join fellow panelists — accomplished women in design who share a passion for empathy and success.

Publications

I have a deep passion for research, whether in psychology or user testing. As a designer, I enjoy applying my skills to craft visually compelling, clear, and truthful representations of data. Data visualization is among my favorite subjects, prompting me to delve into extensive independent study.

During my enrollment in Smart Interface Design Patterns, a remarkable course led by the exceptional Vitaly Friedman, I shared some of my research materials with fellow students. Impressed by my contributions, Vitaly encouraged me to transform my insights into an article. This resulted in a piece now available on Smashing Magazine titled “A Guide to Mastering Data Visualization.” Alongside the article, I offer downloadable resources designed to familiarize readers with commonly used data visualization types and provide tips for optimizing their effectiveness.

I also wrote an article on Medium on one aspect of the overlap between psychology and design titled, “The Intersection of Psychology and Design”.

Extracurriculars

I'm definitely a maker at heart! In my free time, you can often find me crafting. That could mean creating detailed paper cut art, working on my hand lettering, cross-stitching an original design, or a number of other things. I also love playing video games and watching Dimension 20 with my husband and spend time with our pets, a cat, Delilah, and a three-legged dog, Trip (Tripod).

I also love learning new things and talking to people about subjects they're passionate about.

Collabs

I think it's super important to give back, so I try and donate some of my skills to non-profits. Between that and work, I'm pretty busy so I'm not taking on any freelance work at this time. However, if you're a fellow creative and have interest in a collab, please reach out!
